Carry me, carry me – two exhibitions in 2023

Extending an experimental piece – carry me, carry me – exhibited as part of Earthwork in December 2022 (see header image), I developed the ideas further into two pieces titled Boat: Carry me, carry me as entries into:

  • It’s a Small World Sculpture Exhibition – Newstead Arts Hub, 18 March – 9 April 2023, Castlemaine State Festival
  • Art in Windows Trail: Castlemaine Fringe Festival, 16 March – 10 April 2023.

Each sculpture explores the theme of perilous ocean journeys, referencing the trans-Atlantic slave trade, a journey made in chains, and other journeys made in fear or in flight. I see these journeys as ever-present colonial artefacts, intangible and yet continuing to haunt our present. This theme has emerged through my family history research and is both personal and universal.
