Newstead Open Studios 2022

Rhyll Plant creates extraordinary prints. Some she calls ‘nature prints’ – literally inking and printing natural elements such as grasses and feathers. Then she adds layers. Sounds simple but its not, and the end results are stunning. Creating successful nature prints took a lot of trial and error: Rhyll demonstrated nature printing to visitors using a small printing press during the first weekend of Arts Open 2022.

I continued with bowls. Following Rhyll’s example, I set up outside the studio, busily making during the second weekend, and explaining what I was doing to visitors. Most of these bowls had textured coils. Then I started dimpling the inside, and loved that process … so I continued. Other work on show included some new vessels, textured and clad in matt slips, not my usual terra sigillata.
